This Guide to Urology is intended for medical students, junior doctors,
residents and anyone who wants to update their knowledge of urology. It is
aligned with the curriculum of the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical University
of Plovdiv.
The publication is a modern source for semiotics and research methods
in urology, for the aetiology, leading pathogenesis, clinical picture, diagnosis
and treatment of diseases of the excretory and male reproductive system. It
was written with the aim to provide students with enough knowledge that
will support them in their future careers as doctors. Excessive description was
deliberately avoided so that the information can be presented and understood
in a more focused and summarised form. The anatomy and physiology of the
two studied systems are not included while the description of the research
methods included is focused on their specific application in urology. Diseases
that are studied in other disciplines such as nephrology, surgery, obstetrics
and gynaecology are mentioned, but not described.
The theoretical part is in direct relation with the practical training to allow
students to conduct in-depth seminars and the questions at the end of each
section will help to better understand and go through the knowledge acquired.
We dedicate this Handbook of Urology to all our teachers who have worked
in the Department, as well as to our students – current and future.
